Text:
Texts will be provided via Sibelius program of study software (see on line demo) and other materials regarding music theory, technique, history and performance. Sibelius contains track able testing and grading. Scales and Modes in the Beginning by Ron Middlebrook; Chord Chemistry by Ted Greene; Fredrick Noad Book 1 etc ; it is requested that each student be provided a copy of class materials as needed. I will make them available at the school.

Description:
This course will teach guitar technique, theory and performance. It will include contemporary styles as well as traditional classical studies. It will include small band and ensemble performance clinics and will teach basic recording with electric guitar technology. Ethnic music will also be discussed with exposure to various forms: jazz, blues, salsa, samba, Indian, African etc. via clinics w/various artists in performance and mentoring. Video and small ensemble instruction will be utilized to inform students of technology available for self help.

Goals:
1. To inspire and assist students to pursue higher levels of performance and musical understanding.
2. Provide exposure to real world technologies of recording, editing, composing and self help.
Additionally I hope to make this process fun and culturally relevant.

Requirements:
Students are required to be on time, ready to play ASAP, be courteous, practice AT LEAST 30 minutes a day, complete work sheets on computer or by hand and return them to me at the prescribed time; if absent make up work will be completed and returned within 24 hrs of returning. Late work will be accepted but penalized according to the situation. Students will have materials for taking notes at all times. Students with issues regarding instruments please see me immediately.

Evaluation:
Sibelius 5 contains a system for saving and combining test scores for grades. Students will be evaluated through worksheets, performance, and homework.
