Texts will be provided via the Sibelius software program and other materials regarding music theory, technique, history, and performance. Sibelius contains track able testing and grading. Other materials include various articles from historical- anthropological texts such as Millennium by Maubry-Lewis, the Nonesuch Catalogue, and materials collected through Florida State University and University of Florida libraries.
Description:
This nine week program is designed to introduce students to various aspects of the art including knowledge of the pantheon of instruments, how they function in sound and technique in settings from orchestra to rock ensemble. Students will also learn the basic tenets of notation, pitch, intervals, harmony, rhythm, creative listening, keyboard basics, and music technology in the digital realm. Ethnic music will also be discussed with exposure to various forms: jazz, blues, salsa, samba, Indian, African etc. via clinics with various artists in performance and mentoring.
Goals:
1. To inspire and assist students to pursue higher levels of performance and musical understanding.
2. Provide exposure to elements of music so students can make informed decisions for future participation in the art form and to culturally enrich students for life.
Additionally I hope to make this process fun and culturally relevant.
Requirements:
Requirements are attentive minds and completion of basic worksheets in Auralia, Musition, and Instruments. Online listening assignments will be given as well as special projects of cultural relevance.
Evaluation:
A:90-100,B:80-89,C:70-79, D:60-69, F:59-0 configuration.
