Course Description:
- Students will study the history of radio in our culture and discuss the impact of radio as a mass medium.
- Students will complete several projects, both in groups and individually, which demonstrate their knowledge of music genres, historic timelines in mass media, radio station formats, and advertising.
- Students will write personal commentaries to be recorded and played on the school’s radio station. Students will spend additional time in the radio studio doing various on-air projects.
- Students will write news stories, feature stories, and editorials.
Grading
Evaluation:
Students will be graded using a point system for determining grades. Each assignment, project, test, or homework assignment has a certain number of points possible. For example, a test or project may be worth 100 points, while a quiz or homework assignment may be worth 10 or 20 points. To determine the cumulative grade, the total points earned will be divided by the total points possible.

Make-Up Work:
It is the responsibility of the student to ask for make-up work after an absence. The student will have the same number of days to ask for and complete the make-up work as the length of the absence. If a student is absent for one day, he must ask for make-up work the next day, and it must be turned it by the next day.
Late Work:
Late work will be accepted only one day late and points will be deducted for late work.
Behavior Expectations:
- Students must be prepared for class every day with pencil, paper, and any other supplies.
- Students should get to class on time.
- Students must respect others at all times.
- Students will be expected to behave in a mature manner during recording time in the studio.
- As soon as students are finished in the studio, they must return immediately to the classroom.
